High Power Microfocus X-ray Facility

We designed and developed a custom versatile high-power micro-tomograph that can provide high penetrability while achieving resolutions down to 3 µm. That value is the minimum size of individual features that can be visualized / analyzed within the internal structure of objects. The high energy X ray generator allows for a wide range of samples types, densities and sizes to be analyzed. We use different X ray detector types that we have available for various custom experimental setups. This type of versatility cannot be obtained with regular commercial X-ray systems. The software for control and data acquisition is developed in-house. We have developed different scanning protocols for samples that can be as small as tens of micrometers or longer than one meter.

225 KV high-resolution set-up:

  • X ray generator: Nikon micro-focus with 225 KV interchangeable module;
  • X ray detector: flat panel with resolution 2000 x 2000 px, windows size 400 x 400 mm, pixel size 200 µm, 16 bit;
  • Four ultra-high precision motorized stages.

320 KV high-power set-up:

  • X ray generator: Nikon micro-focus with 320 KV interchangeable module *;
  • X ray detector: high energy flat panel with resolution 2000 x 2000 px, windows size 400 x 400 mm, pixel size 200 µm, 16 bit;
  • Three high load, high precision motorized stages.
